We’re Liverpool Guild of Students, the Students’ Union for the University of Liverpool. Our job is to create a home for each of the 32,000 students during their time here, ensuring each student gets the most out of student life beyond their degree. We’re a democratically led organisation for over 32,000 student members. Our staff team work together to carry out our mission, vision and values.

We are a registered charity. As a company limited by guarantee, we are governed by a Board of Trustees who hold the ultimate responsibility for everything we do. Our Board of Trustees meet at least four times a year to make sure we are working towards or achieving what we say we will.

We are on the look out for a Governance Manager to cover a period of maternity leave for a fixed period of 12 months. The role of the Governance Manager is the management and administration of the governance functions at the Guild of Students, ensuring compliance with charity and company law, and to support the Board of Trustees and senior leadership team (SLT) in delivering organisational objectives.

Working closely with colleagues across the Guild, you’ll maintain our internal processes that support the effective governance structure at the Guild. Your role will involve Board and committee support, risk management administration, overseeing the policy management process and helping colleagues embed good governance across the organisation.

Our last Board of 2026 is on Thursday 17th December and we would like the successful candidate to attend this as an observer along with the current Governance Manager if available (meeting takes place at 2.30pm on site at the Guild).

Data Protection (Grade 7 responsibility)
Governance is the primary focus of this role, for applicants with applicable or transferable experience or knowledge there is an opportunity to undertake responsibilities as the Guild’s Data Protection Co-ordinator, supporting compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation. These duties form part of the Grade 7 role and include coordinating data protection compliance, training and records management across the organisation.

We welcome applications from candidates who may not meet every aspect of the person specification but can demonstrate relevant transferable skills, knowledge and experience. If you have experience gained in a similar environment, we would encourage you to apply.

We encourage applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented within the Guild.

The Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Ethnically Diverse Candidates at Liverpool Guild of Students is committed to the principles of equality of opportunity. We annually review racial diversity within our workforce, and it is a key priority for us to improve racial and ethnic diversity amongst our workforce, and as such we particularly welcome applications from ethnically diverse candidates and have introduced a guaranteed interview scheme. We recognise that applicants from ethnically diverse backgrounds may have experienced additional barriers when applying for new roles.

Therefore, we are taking positive action to address an under-representation within our organisation. If you meet the minimum criteria (at least 80% of the 'essential' criteria in the person specification) and are from an ethnically diverse background, you'll be guaranteed an interview. If you are an ethnically diverse applicant and would like to be considered under our guaranteed interview scheme, you must indicate this by selecting the relevant box on the Equality and Diversity Monitoring Form. If you do not select this box, your application will be considered alongside all other applications. It is important to note that this scheme only guarantees an interview for ethnically diverse applicants who meet the minimum criteria. The selection decision at interview will be based on the most suitable candidate, regardless of background or protected characteristic.
